About

the

Symposium

The University of California, San Diego’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Postdoctoral Symposium showcases the innovative and original research of postdoctoral fellows in the department. This annual symposium boasts oral and poster presentations, spanning diverse chemical disciplines, including biochemistry, chemical biology, inorganic, organic, and theoretical chemistry. In addition, the Symposium also serves as a public forum for postdoctoral scholars to enhance their scientific communication skills, network with colleagues, and foster future collaborations.

Complementary headshot photos will be available to all Chemistry Postdocs during the Symposium, courtesy of Alex and Lisa.

Dr. Yinan Wang, a member of the Godula Laboratory, along with his wife, Rebecca Song, were involved in a tragic car accident along Kings River during their visit to Sequoia National Park this past August. Yinan was born and raised in Hangzhou, China, and obtained his undergraduate B.Eng. in Polymer Science and Engineering degree at the Shenyang University of Chemical Technology, where he developed a passion for biomaterials. After completing his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, Yinan joined the Godula Lab in August 2016. At UCSD, Yinan worked on developing new glycomimetic materials and strategies for building glycan complexity and heterogeneity on the surfaces of living cells using photopatterning techniques.

In remembrance of our colleague and friend, Dr. Yinan Wang, who combined serious science and charismatic humor to epitomize postdoctoral scholarship, the Godula Lab would like to invite our Chemistry Community to a vigil service on Thursday, October 5th, 2017 (2:30 PM refreshments, 3:15-4:00 PM service) in the Phillip Vera Cruz Room in the Old Student Center. We would like to welcome all to join us in celebrating Yinan’s life and his passion for his scientific work. We will also be presenting the “Dr. Yinan Wang Memorial Award for Excellence in Research” during the next day’s Postdoctoral Research Symposium to recognize an outstanding researcher in his honor.
